Intermediate Centers

South Bend Community School Corporation has ten intermediate centers serving students in grades five through eight. The intermediate center's are designed to serve as a bridge between the primary centers (K-4) and the high schools.

Program Description

The intermediate center program is designed to meet the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of fifth through eighth grade students, generally children aged ten through fourteen. By providing a continuous four year instructional program, students will be able to transition from a self-contained classroom organization in grades 5 and 6 to a departmentalized subject organization in grades 7 and 8. Support and enrichment are available as appropriate. The four year program will also permit increased staff awareness and identification of student needs during critical developmental stages.

LaSalle Intermediate Academy

LaSalle Intermediate Academy is available to all students in grades 5-8 who meet admission criteria and choose to attend this specialized program. The LaSalle Academy provides a rigorous, comprehensive academic program for highly capable students. Extensive use of technology is be integrated into all areas of the curriculum, particularly in mathematics and science.

Magnet Transfer Option

All students in grades 5-8 may apply to the LaSalle Intermediate Academy. A request for transfer and an application to the Academy must be completed and submitted to be considered for admission. Applications will be evaluated to determine eligibility for admission. The student enrollment at the Academy will be on a capacity and racially controlled basis. Transfer request information will be made available.
